Animal’s Hump Day News

Happy Hump Day!

The cold snap has ended!  We should see highs in the twenties today, although there have been about six inches of fresh new snow since Sunday morning.  The bad news is that we had a chimney fire on our wood stove, creosote buildup from all the beetle-killed spruce we’ve been burning.  No damage to the house, but the stove pipe, which is probably 40 years old, was damaged, so we’ll have to have that replaced before we can use the wood stove again.  All part and parcel of being a homeowner, eh?

Still, spring is on the way.  We do love our Alaska winters, but boy howdy, -30 is a bit much, and by mid-February, everyone hereabouts is ready for spring.

Now then…

On To the Links!

This is something of an understatement.

It’s beginning to look like he can.

This is known as belaboring the obvious.

Was Jon Stewart ever funny?

Feature, not bug.

RIP, Carl Weathers

It’s not “burdens of incumbency,” it’s “burdens of senility.”

I doubt it will make much difference.

What would we do without Democrats?  Probably have a safe, prosperous country.

Gorillas and humans have tiny testicles. File this under “answers to questions you never asked.”

Trump not immune.

No shit, Sherlock.

This Week’s Idiots:

The Nation’s John Nichols (Repeat Offender Alert) is an idiot.

Al Gore is an idiot.

MSNBC’s Hayes Brown (Repeat Offender Alert) is an idiot.

Only an idiot thinks there’s any saving Fani Willis.

Slate’s Molly Olmstead is an idiot.

Paul Krugman (Repeat Offender Alert) is still a cheap partisan hack, and an idiot.

This Week’s Cultural Edification:

In 1968, I was only seven years old, but being the youngest of five, I spent a fair amount of time hanging around with my older brother and sisters.  That meant I got exposed to a lot of late-sixties music that I still enjoy today; it brings back some great memories.

One song in particular, for some reason, brings back memories of riding with my brother in his shiny new ’67 Chevelle SS, with the big 427 engine.  That car was a beast!  The song, from 1968, is The Lemon Piper’s tune Green Tambourine.  Enjoy!
