Well, Bernie Sanders just shot his chances at the Democrat nomination in the ass (pun intended.) Read for yourself. Excerpt:
Yeah, this isn’t going to sit well with the anti-gun wing of the Democratic Party. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said accurately that 99.9 percent of gun owners are law-abiding citizens. This remark was made last Sunday when CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Sanders about his support for the Protection of Lawful Commerce In Arms Act (PLCAA). In essence, the PLCAA is a great law that protects the gun industry from being sued if their firearms are used in criminal activities.
Well, nutty old Bernie can tell the truth about gun owners. Too bad he’s utterly clueless about economics, but you know what they say about blind hogs and acorns. But, it seems that the utterly law-abiding gun owners Bernie refers to are still not immune from unfair restriction in the (unlikely) event of a Sanders Administration; Bernie continues:
“I want to see real serious debate and action on guns. But it is not going to take place if we simply have extreme positions on both sides. I think I can bring us to the middle.”
The middle, of course, being more of the same – blaming the tool for the hand that wields it, and wasting more time on meaningless gun-control measures that will lay restriction on the law-abiding and inconvenience criminals not a jot.
In any case it’s probably academic. Sanders has somewhat greater chances of spontaneously teleporting to Kathmandu than being elected President, especially given his remarks on legal gun owners in a Democratic party that has pulled sharply away from public opinion on this issue. And Sanders, whose economic policy positions would have us rapidly following Greece into the shitter, would be an utter disaster in the Imperial Mansion in every other sense.
Even so – it’s nice to see a pol from the left get something right on this issue for once.
