Equal treatment under the law has been a dead letter for some time now in this country, but leave it to the Mayor of San Francisco to take a big steaming dump on its corpse. Excerpt:
San Francisco Mayor London Breed is facing widespread criticism after announcing a plan to end homelessness in the city…but specifically for transgender people.
The Democrat’s $6.5 million plan will supposedly end transgender homelessness by 2027.
“Transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming San Franciscans are 18 times more likely to experience homelessness compared to the general population, and we know that the rates are even higher for our minority trans communities,” stated Breed. “With one of the largest TGNC populations in the country, we not only must ensure that all San Franciscans have access to housing and essential resources through continued investments, but we can show the country that we continue to be a leader on supporting and protecting our trans communities.”
There are approximately 7,754 homeless people in San Francisco, while only about 320 homeless are transgender, according to a 2021 survey.
To say Breed is an idiot does a great disservice to idiots everywhere, but she’s an idiot with power, and those are the most dangerous of all idiots. But her power isn’t unlimited – yet – and this is drawing some protest even from elsewhere in the Left.
But most of the outcry is coming for the wrong reasons. What government does for anyone it must do for everyone or it must do for no one. That’s equal treatment under the law, and as I’ve pointed out, it’s effectively dead in this country now. Now, in San Francisco, you’re seeing the result. That is what we should be angry about. But no – the RHEEEE from many denizens of that poop-littered city consists only of whinging that the program won’t cover all of the homeless, and in so doing spending more money enabling, not solving, this problem.
If the city has to spend $6.1 million dollars on something, why not spend it on cleaning the poop and discarded needles off the streets? That would be a public service that would benefit the entire city, not just the tiny minority of bums that identify themselves as trans – oh, and by the way, if this policy goes into effect, watch the rush as every bum on the street starts claiming to be transgender.
What government (at any level) does for anyone it must do for everyone or it must do for no one. That’s what equal treatment under the law means. Mayor Breed has forgotten that, if indeed she ever knew it, or gave even an ounce of shit about it if she did – but to be fair, in our “political class,” she has plenty of company.
