Me, leaning on Rojito

A young protege of mine caught me leaning on my truck and yawning, when I should have been hunting elk. The bright red truck is Rojito, a 1999 Ranger that replaced the intrepid Dark Horse.

A lovely patch of aspens, west of Trinidad, October 2003

Taking Aim

Elk Camp

One of my typical Spartan elk camps, in Firebox Park south of Eagle.

Fishing

Trying in vain to catch an eating-size trout. Near Kremmling.

Stump

I just thought this made an interesting image. In Rocky Mountain National Park, in a place called Endovalley.

Raghorn Bull

A small bull elk, in Rocky Mountain National Park. The elk here are very tame and easy to photograph, but one should take care not to get too close.

Cow herd

A herd of cow elk in Rocky Mountain National Park, near the Moraine Park campground.

Valley View

I tracked a herd of cow elk up into this pretty little valley one evening. This is south of Eagle.

Sunset

Taken from a canyon where the setting sun left me stranded overnight. I built a fire, wrapped up in a space blanket from my day pack, and waited it out.

Cattails

From the marshy upper end of Cherry Creek Reservoir, about a ten minute walk from my front door.

1939

I'm not really fond of tree carvings, but one morning in the woods north of Basalt I was surprised to find one dated 1939.

Cow Elk

A cow elk, in the woods south of Eagle - this was taken, of course, one week before the opening of the blackpowder elk season.

Near Estes Park

I've spent plenty of time tramping around in rough country like this.

Late Afternoon

Late afternoon in the White River National Forest south of Eagle.

Eagle River

Some nice trout water on the Eagle River, near Edwards.

McKenzie Gulch

Near Eagle. I almost shot a bull elk way down in the bottom there once, then thought better of it. It would have been way too much work getting him out.

Cherry Creek State Park

On a trail where I like to walk in the mornings.

Cherry Creek Reservoir

A ten minute walk from my front door. Pretty, when it's not covered with powerboats.

North Park

A neat view of North Park, south of Walden. This is prime sage grouse and antelope country.
